Hi Everyone,
This morning Patrick and I went for a walk to the market to purchase food for lunch. I love to walk around markets where you can visit the individual stands where the proprietor sells his produce. Often there are small bits of food to try which encourages you to purchase more. If you plan it carefully, you can eat enough at different stands replacing a whole lunch. You can even enjoy a tasting of a small glass of wine or champagne.
After lunch we continued our visit of down town Reims. We went to the Cathedral of Reims. The 1st church was built on the same site in 400, rebuilt in 800 wth the final cathedral being built over a period of 80 years in the 13th century. The cathedral was badly damaged by the bombardment of Reims by the Germans during WW1. 80% of Reims was destroyed and then rebuilt in the years following the war.
In the evening I went to Richard’s apartment for dinner. I walked over at 7:30, a 10 minute walk from Patrick’s apartment. We laughed, dined and drank champagne and wine until midnight. I bid goodbye to everyone, leaving at midnight. On arrival at Patrick’s I realized that I didn’t have the code to enter and didn’t understand that I had to push the down arrow to arrive at the name. Geoffroy. I tried calling but I had the number to dial from Canada. Not knowing to add a 0 before the 8 digit number, I made my way back to Richard’s and had one of the cousins dial the correct number for me. The trials and tribulations of a tourist in a foreign country. Everyone was still eating and drinking; the party probably continued until 2:00 am.
Love,
Brian
